Transparency Report
Complete transparency about what data Agreed can and cannot access
Last updated: December 2025
Our Encryption Promise
Agreed uses true end-to-end encryption (E2E) for your private communications. This means your messages and photos are encrypted on your device before being sent, and only you and your co-parent can decrypt them. We use the same encryption approach as WhatsApp and Signal.
What We Can and Cannot Access
| Data Type | Can We Access? | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Message Content | NO | End-to-end encrypted. Only you and your co-parent can read. |
| Photos & Media | NO | Encrypted before upload. We only see encrypted blobs. |
| Child Medical Info | NO | End-to-end encrypted with your case key. |
| Your Encryption Keys | NO | Keys are generated and stored only on your device. |
| Account Info | YES | Email, name, phone (for login, notifications). |
| Message Metadata | YES | When sent, read status, sender ID (not content). |
| Calendar Events | YES | Event titles, times, locations (for notifications). |
| Expense Amounts | YES | Amounts, categories, status (for calculations). |
| Child Names & DOB | YES | Basic info for app functionality. |
Response to Legal Requests
What We Cannot Provide
Due to end-to-end encryption, we mathematically cannot provide:
- Message text content
- Photo contents
- Decryption keys
- Any E2E encrypted data
This is not a policy choice - it's a technical reality. We don't have these keys.
What We Can Provide
When legally required, we can provide:
- Account registration information
- Login timestamps and IP addresses
- Message metadata (timestamps, read status)
- Calendar event details
- Expense records
- Encrypted file sizes and timestamps
Need Your Data for Court?
Because both parents have access to the same messages, you don't need us to provide your data for legal proceedings. You can export it yourself:
Export Your Data
Use Settings > Data & Export > Export My Data to download all your information
Generate Reports
Create Activity Reports with summary or detailed views of your co-parenting history
Share with Lawyer
Your exported data includes SHA-256 verification hashes for authenticity
Why End-to-End Encryption?
We chose E2E encryption because we believe sensitive family communications deserve the strongest protection possible. Co-parenting often involves discussing children's health, school issues, and other private matters that should remain between parents.
By using E2E encryption, we ensure that even in the unlikely event of a data breach, your private messages remain unreadable. We can't read them, hackers can't read them, and no government can compel us to provide data we don't have.
The tradeoff is that you become responsible for your encryption keys. We strongly recommend backing up your keys using the recovery phrase feature in Settings.
